BUTTERFIELD FOODS

NOBLESVILLE, IN

Company Summary

Butterfield Foods  – located in the Indianapolis suburb of Noblesville, Indiana – is a USDA inspected, private label, food production company.  Products include a variety of entrees and side dishes, soups and sauces, hand-pulled meat products, and sandwiches and salads.  Customers include supermarkets, restaurants, convenience stores, big-box retailers, and other food production companies.

Butterfield Foods was founded in 1981 as a small producer of deli salads.  It was sold to Marsh Supermarkets in 1988, becoming the grocery’s internal food production commissary.  Marsh moved it to its current Noblesville location in 1996.  In the fall of 2006, Sun Capital Partners, of Boca Raton, Florida acquired Marsh Supermarkets, and soon began divesting Marsh of its non-profitable, non-core assets.  In 2007, Frank Violi assembled a new investment group, Butterfield Foods LLC, to purchase the assets of Butterfield Foods from Sun Capital partners.  The company has since expanded within the Noblesville location, adding over 100 employees and multiple pieces of production equipment and product lines.
